I consider the utmost goal of social capital is to connect with people with different ideas and backgrounds. The first step towards expanding your network to include others quite different from you is is being open and respectful to others and their point of view. Building social capital with those unlike me helps me to understand the world in other ways. When communicating with people of other cultures and ways of life I building upon my global understanding and it helps me think in new and different ways.
My approach to learning has changed dramatically. It seems that over time I have moved from relying heavily on one learning style or intelligence to using many. This is particularly true in regards to my learning style. I consider myself evenly split on using auditory, visual and tactile styles. As life my experiences have ebbed and flowed I have adapted to the learning style that is most available, given the situation. Now being aware of my learning style and intelligence I will be better able to learn and process information.
Last week as I listed items to be included on my portfolio I pondered my legacy. Was this really all I had done? Would a resume and certificates really show who I was? Who was I anyway, and what would I want other to remember about me? I am not sure that even today I have all the answers. I hope that when I am gone from this world I am remembered as a honest, fun, smart, caring and hard-working individual who has made this world a better place.
